Amy completed her 200-hour teacher training certification through Moksha Yoga Center. She feels fortunate to have trained under master teachers Aadil Palkhivala, Seane Corn, Tias Little and Shanna Linn. Her passion for teaching yoga in its traditional style, to students of all ages, stems from her passion to help others find their own inner peace, strength, health, and balance.
Upon completing culinary school, with a degree in baking & pastries in 2006, Candice decided to take another turn; her passion did not stop in the kitchen, it turned toward a yoga mat. When she began taking yoga classes, Candice quickly noticed she did not want to get off her mat as it was where she found peace. “Yoga clears my mind & takes all the bad away.” One day a week turned into two, then two turned into three. She soon realized yoga was medicine for her mind, body & soul, and it is where she belonged. In 2010, she received her 200 hour Certification training in classic hatha vinyassa from Heaven Meets Earth. Candice is happy to spread the peace & love yoga offers everyone she comes in contact with, in life & in practice.
Carlie went to college to find her passion and did so by taking a yoga class. Her true happiness is in practicing yoga; she obtained her teacher training certification from the Chicago Yoga Center & has been teaching ever since. Having found yoga, as a lifetime passion, Carlie finds sharing her yoga practice, with others, as the most fulfilling thing she has ever done.
Yoga has been an intregal part of Caryn’s life for over 20 years. She is grateful to have discovered yoga as a means to destress from studies at the Univ. of Michigan & thereafter from work as a sales, marketing and real estate professional. She completed the 200-hour certification through Daren Friesen, Moksha Yoga, in 2000 & became a certified YogaEd Educator in 2008. Her great fortune has allowed her to study, train & deepen her personal practice with many nationally known yogi’s including Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste & Ana Forest.
Caryn has considerable knowledge & experience to teach yoga to anyone at any age or level in class or in private, to meet their needs, working within their abilities & comfort. She would love to guide you on your journey to finding that “place”.
Jane received her Pilates certification through Core Dynamics in 2003. Core Dynamics is an intensive training program founded by Michelle Larsson, who studied with Eve Gentry, Joseph Pilates’ protégée. This program includes over 500 hours of observation, personal practice and student teaching. Always an avid exercise enthusiast, Jane discovered Pilates to be an excellent blend of a mind/body discipline. “I love that Pilates can be adapted to various fitness levels, and that it is a continual learning and growing process for both the client and instructor.” Jane is the owner of Park Pilates, a small private studio on the Northwest side of Chicago, and is very pleased to be teaching mat Pilates classes at Sun and Moon.
Joan began practicing yoga as a working adult and, encouraged by her teacher, she completed her teacher training in 2001. She teaches an eclectic blend of Hatha, drawing inspiration from the many teachers with whom she has had the pleasure of working. She likes to incorporate the use of straps, blocks and blankets to modify poses, and feels that this can help students of all levels. She sees herself as an instrument through which students can develop poise and confidence about their bodies. Through breath control and heightened awareness, she hopes to help students improve their quality of life.
Julie has been practicing yoga for many years & completed her hatha yoga teacher training at The Temple of Kriya Yoga. Through years of personal practice, ongoing workshops & trainings with invaluable teachers, her passion for yoga grows stronger! Julie is convinced the positive healing effects of yoga benefit all who participate. Her personal style of teaching focuses on breath, body awareness & proper alignment–allowing students to feel safe to explore, challenge themselves, find balance & peace throughout their practice. Her intention with each class is for students to leave feeling better & more energized than when they arrived.
Karin comes to Sun and Moon Yoga with more than ten years of yoga experience. She first discovered its benefits as a mother of two, when she returned to college, full-time. Her busy life left her little time for herself; when she attended her first yoga class, she was immediately impressed by the ability to relieve physical & mental tension. After a few years of practice, she studied at the Temple of Kriya Yoga, where she received her certifications. Her approach to the asana practice allows students to progress at their own pace, coupled with gentle testing of physical/mental boundaries by instructing students to find their “intelligent edge” & work within their poses, allowing them to feel the physical sensations & emotions which arise during their practice.
Kim joins Sun and Moon having completed a 300-hour teacher training certification through Moksha Yoga Center with Daren Friesen and she is a member of Yoga Alliance. Kimberly is also an adjunct professor at Columbia College’s Dance Center, where she teaches Beginning Yoga Studies. She has been a yoga instructor in both the group and private setting at many of Chicago’s studios and she also owned and managed her own yoga studio. Presently, Kimberly is working her way through Rod Stryker’s Para Yoga teacher training program and is also a student of Samudra: Global School of Living Yoga with Shiva Rae.
Kimberly holds basic certification in Thai Yoga Massage through Paul Weitz and has studied Ayurveda with Robert Svaboda. She is both grateful and honored to have studied extensively with many yoga masters.
Kirsten received her yoga training in 2008 & enjoys teaching a wide range of students: beginner, advanced, seniors, children/young adults & prenatal/ postpartum.
She has been teaching yoga for over 3 years after her yoga journey began as a student 8 years prior, while studying physical education in college; at this time, Kirsten fell in love with the art & science of yoga. Practicing yoga helped her deal with life’s challenging issues, such as anxiety and depression, and changed her life in such a way, she knew she must share it with others. Kirsten also holds a masters degree in special education & has practiced yoga with her students during her 3 years as a special education teacher of students of autism. Kirsten is looking forward to sharing her passion of yoga with others at Sun and Moon Yoga.
Stefanie discovered a path of spirituality & yoga following a journey to South East Asia ten years ago. More recently she completed The Teacher’s Training Course at the Temple of Kriya Yoga & continues to pursue Yoga experiences thru workshops & a diverse practice.
She encourages students to listen to their body honestly as they explore yoga & stay connected to the breath. Her inspiration as a Teacher is to provide a platform for students to tap into their true potential on & off the mat. Although Stef is trained in the classical style of Hatha Yoga, she enjoys bringing a creative edge that allows students to explore their potential freely & mindfully.
